Keshi pearls consist of only pure nacre.  For this reason, Keshi pearls have the very highest luster.  There is nothing inside to block the reflection of light and that beautiful glow of Keshi luster is remarkable and almost breathtaking.

The international term Keshi means ‘poppy’ in Japanese, and is a reference to all pearls that grew without a nucleus.Their size is determined by the growth period and the environmental conditions. 

Keshi pearls can be formed by wrapping the nacre around sand, gravel, or other foreign matter that accidentally enters the pearl oyster rather than being cultivated, or by accident when enucleated.

The skin of Keshi pearls is often beautifully smooth and shapes can be round, button, drop or oval, semi-baroque and baroque. (round Keshi pearls being exceedingly rare, perfectly round shape are the most expensive)   Depending on the host oyster and its geographic location, Keshi pearls come in colors such as white, pink, cream, champagne, golden, silver, black, green, pistachio, peacock all the colors of the rainbow.

Keshi pearls are highly prized and very valuable because of their brightest luster.  Since they are purely precious material, they are sold by weight like a gemstone.  When collected and designed into a magnificent strand or a wearable work of art as jewelry, they become even more valuable.
